Mobile -first website redesigned from the ground up

The Project

Partner Hub Reimagined is a project to redesign Starbuck’s most used internal website from the ground up. “Partner Hub” is Starbuck’s internet site for all Starbuck’s partners (Starbucks name for employee) across North America. Partners use the site on a daily to weekly basis to get vital information regarding company updates, operations, benefits and news.

My role

I was tasked to create a UX strategy and build the wireframe for the new Partner Hub website. My primary focus was on the following goals…

Branding and style standards: Redesign the site with a new visual language that best reflects modern Starbuck’s branding and style.

Home screen: Design a homepage to be intuitive and useful by providing the right tools and essential information to help set our partners up for success.

Navigation: Simplify the site’s complex mega menu to enhance partner’s ability to find content necessary to accomplish their top tasks.

Usability: Improve the site’s System Usability Scale (SUS) score to be above the industry average.

Strategy

For the minimal viable product (MVP) of the redesigned my goal was to discover what changes would impact our biggest user group: Starbuck’s retail partners. I did the following to achieve this:

  • Discovered the top partner hub use cases for retail partners through surveys and interviews with partners and analyzing existing research

  • Ranked the issues that are affecting retail partners in accomplishing use cases. We discovered the top issues were finding

  • Created wireframes the focused on the the top issues

  • Build prototypes and tested them with partners at Starbuck stores with help from researchers

  • Integrated design using insights from testing results

Results

MVP brought the Partner Hub System Usability Scale (SUS) score from 57.8 (below standard) to 76 (above standard)

On a scale of 1 - 10, “How much do you like Partner hub?” improved from an average of 5.6 to 8.3

Most top tasks scored higher for both efficiency and ease of use.

Many tasks improved to a 100% task completion success rate.
